The Dream Factory
by Janet Leigh
Book Description
A novel about the pover of secrets in a town built on illusions.

From Janet Leigh, one of Hollywood's most glamorous insiders, comes a novel about the power of secrets in a town built on illusions.

It was a time when Hollywood studios were at their most powerful, when stars were discovered and crafted into national idols and the motion picture dream factory was in full swing. And at the center of it all was one woman -- a woman who knew all the secrets.

Eve Handel had always been encouraged to follow her dreams -- dreams that took her to Hollywood. Hired by Utopia Studios to find talented actors and build them into stars, Eve quickly became one of the most powerful women in an industry run by men. And as she influenced the careers of the studio's stars, Hollywood's elite freely unloaded their secrets -- and scandals -- on Eve.

Now after a sudden illness, Eve lies in a hospital bed. As her life hangs in the balance those closest to her are torn between their concern for Eve and concern for their own reputations. Because Eve Handel kept a journal -- a journal containing truths that could jeopardize careers and ruin lives.

About the Author
Jeanette Helen Morrison was thrust into the fantastic world of Hollywood when she was discovered by motion picture legend Norma Shearer at a ski lodge in northern California. Overwhelmed by the young woman's beauty, Shearer immediately contacted MGM studios, who sent for her, changed her name to Janet Leigh and signed her to a film contract. Before the ink was dry on her contract, she was shooting her debut film, The Romance of Rosy Ridge. She flourished instantly, and it was the beginning of a very successful career in film.

Leigh was born and raised in Merced, California. She studied music and psychology at the College of the Pacific, where she had her first experience performing in musicals. Most memorable among her more than fifty films, which include several musicals, are Bye Bye Birdie, Touch of Evil, My Sister Eileen and Little Women. Leigh also starred in such films as Holiday Affair, The Naked Spur and The Manchurian Candidate, opposite Frank Sinatra. She is most noted, however, for her role in Alfred Hitchcock's 1960 classic thriller, Psycho, which landed her an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress in 1960, as well as the Golden Globe Award for Best Performance. --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.
