About the Author
Jan Adkins is the author of thirty-five books, both fiction and non-fiction. He has been nominated for the National Book Award and the Newbery Award, and has been awarded four Brooklyn Museum Art Citations and the Lewis Carroll Staff Award for his illustrated children's books. He received the gold medal for "Best Essay of the Year" from the Independent Regional Magazine Association and a stack of awards from various art directors' societies for his design work, most notably for his nine-year Associate Deirectorship of the National Geographic Magazine, where he first met roy Andersen. Adkins writes and designs at his home in California
